The issue of imports substitution, essential during the last years, has allowed the Russian producers to expand their presence in the domestic market. That includes production of sophisticated composite materials.
As Gexa’s head of medical items department Lubov Chernova pointed out, simple materials for medical purposes are manufactured by many “nonwovers’, but sophisticated composite materials have not been made by any Russian producer until recently. Gexa was the first to have mastered such production and took part in development of the relevant GOST 13795 standard.
So why are disposable nonwoven materials so good for the medical purposes? First of all, they lower the risk of infection. In surgery, for example, the operation itself and the environment are one of the primary factors of potential infecting of the surgical site. The risks have to do not only with a possible violation of the antiseptic rules, but also with the personnel’s attire. Since any moisture is a potential carrier of infection, impermeability of surgical underwear and clothing material is considered an essential factor, providing a protective barrier. High-quality surgical underwear must be able to withstand the pressure of 1 meter of water column in a critical zone.
Medical underwear and clothes made of nonwoven single-componenet materials fully comply with this requirement.
Besides that, surgical materials should have a high strength. In terms of this parameter, any synthetized textile is ahead of any fabric – it is five times stronger. It is also significantly important for hospitals that the materials are free of dust and lint, as they might be a vehicle for various type of bacteria and viruses. This problem does not occur if a nonwoven material is used.
High absorbability is still another factor letting Gexa surgical materials stand out. Sheets, possesing a high absorbing capacity by themselves, are produced with certain areas of extra protection. For the purposes of chest operations, for example, there are sheets produced with an extra absorbing area of the special material Tutami adsorb S, located around the opening. This prevents the spreading of liquids beyond the surgery site and table, thus ensuring the necessary purity of the patient’s skin. Special features of various types of surgery – cardiovascular, neck and head, urology, gynaecology, traumatology, orthopedics and neurology – are accounted for in producing sets of underwear and sheets.
Being in constant contact and collaboration with medical institutions helps Gexa develop and produce the products fully meeting the doctors’ requirements. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Gexa may soon acquire a 30-percent share of the market of complex surgical sets.
